We get the chance to sit down with newcomer and first time filmmaker Robb Connolly. His short Our Neck of The Woods premiered at Sundance this year and is now touring the film festival circuit. Wonderfully shot, great narrative, and fantastic editing, Robb explains his film, the work it takes and playing festivals.

HELLO FRIENDS,

I can not advice you enough to go to Itunes right now and purchasing the new Gomez “A New Tide” but seriously, you need to at least get Track 7, “Airstream Driver.” This song has been pushing me to write write write all morning. In this thing called web posting and “content”, which i am King Noob of, so much to learn and damn catchy music and great rhythm keeps the steady pace in order.

We’ve had such an amazing time so far at this 2009 Florida Film Festival, and i can not push this festival enough. The past weekend we have been treated so well, and able to play catch up with friends. Finally was able to meet Darren Dean (prod/writer of the film festival smash/award winning Prince Of Broadway) and almost catch a TNA Wrestling Event with him here in Universal Studios. Thanks to Mark Rabinowitz for sharing amazing dinners and bird calls with us. Good luck on all your travels, and don’t forget Anfield? May, Rome? May!!

The Italian Cinema Night was last night and WOW, great night all around with some amazing shorts. We were able to get an interview with director Tak Kuroha (Clacson) and had a blast talking about one of the best, most disturbing comedic endings in a short film this year. A huge shout out to Matthew Curtis (FFF’s Programming Director) for a pristine 35mm print of La Dolce Vita and 2 glasses of wine, a Peroni, Pizza and popcorn (what doesn’t belong here?) and the best Italian Night Cinema the Florida Film Festival has ever put on. THANK YOU!

We’ll some videos are being uploaded now, and edited, but have no fear…you saw the pics of the Rock-afire Explosion, get ready for the video!

What a day! All three screens at the FLORIDA FILM FESTIVAL was screening 6 films from 11:30am to 1:30am. We had a busy day today, grabbing some filmmakers today from the Shorts Program: “Wrongs of Passions” for interviews. Alicia Conway, FFF alum, has her much talked about Sundance hit Rite and the laugh out loud, yet tragic tale of a ex-husband, and re-incarnated as a parrot in Jealous Husband Returns by Paul Seetachitt.

Ken Russell had a SOLD OUT screening of Crimes of Passion, in which screenwriter and producer Barry Sandler moderated the Q&A. A huge “thank you” to Ken and taking he time to fly out here and to accept your award from the FFF. Some amazing attendance at the festival, a lot of response in the Narrative Features, FINALLY!

After doing some intro’s (thanks FFF) for The Burning Plain, EM and True Adolescents, it was time to split, get some sleep, and see you in the morning. I will taking pictures tomorrow, i promise.

NIGHT!

Brian Quain interviews Director Katharine O’Brien about her Florida Film Festival entry, Doppelganger.
Doppelganger is a Kane and Able sitituation where a father pins a set of twin brothers on each other when their practicing boxing. Katharine’s interview gives her film better justice then we do.

HELLO FRIENDS,

As some of you know our BEFORE YOU SUBMIT PODCAST has been re-vamping and at some point in the next 10 days will launching a new, totally revoluctionary idea for indie filmmkaers and film festivals worldwide, (let’s go withg nation wide in beta and see how it works). Well, i was doing some stats and checking in to make some adjustments, and I can’t believe the hits this podcast is still receiving at our serving site PODOMATIC and ITunes. We are doing TOO well for not touching it in a bit and something tells me these 6 episodes would like to have some extra ears listen in. Being in the Top 50 amazes me in the categories we belong. If you haven’t heard, why should you?

What is different about the BEFORE YOU SUBMIT PODCAST is we offer advice to indie filmmakers and festivals about submitting films to fests. Conveintently called “Festival Tips.” Hope you enjoy and you can find us at the Podomatic site or even search “BEFORE YOU SUBMIT” in ITUNES under Podcasts.

Thanks everyone, and expect some new PODCASTS with filmmakers and their experiences in submitting and touring film festivals.
