I was able to interview the man responsible for creating MANY childhood memories and MANY childhood birthday parties for a lot of us. Aaron Fechter (Creative Engineering INC.), in the 80’s made hundreds of rock bands to play ShowBiz Pizza’s nationwide. These rock bands were animatronic bears, gorillas, birds, wolves, and even a girly mouse. The Rock-AFire Explosion was the house band for this chain restaurant, and in time, like everything from the 80’s, disappeared and was replaced by a shity version of what we loved. Aaron explains the film, The Rock-AFire Explosion and future endeavors of the band and his creation.

Director/Producer Brett Whitcomb and Writer/Music Brad Thomason of the new documentary The Rock-AFire Explosion explain the plains of making such an amazing film and talk about the fans of this band. Chris Thrash is the main subject of the film, a devoted fan of the animatronic rock band of the 80’s, and started to single handedly bring this band back to life on the internet. A MUST SEE at a festival near you. And hopefully, the band will be touring…but that’s in another interview.

As some of you know our BEFORE YOU SUBMIT PODCAST has been re-vamping and at some point in the next 10 days will launching a new, totally revoluctionary idea for indie filmmkaers and film festivals worldwide, (let’s go withg nation wide in beta and see how it works). Well, i was doing some stats and checking in to make some adjustments, and I can’t believe the hits this podcast is still receiving at our serving site PODOMATIC and ITunes. We are doing TOO well for not touching it in a bit and something tells me these 6 episodes would like to have some extra ears listen in. Being in the Top 50 amazes me in the categories we belong. If you haven’t heard, why should you?

Matt and I are sitting in the Florida Film Festival office, getting the t’s crossed, and i’s dotted, etc. It’s been a great (and not too tiring) day of filming at the Enzian Theater, grabbed some lunch and now the finishing touches. Matt is already editing the new footage and we’ll have it up ASAP. As for me, i am setting up our filmmaker and celebrity schedules for the next 10 days. A bunch of great and familiar faces coming along, picking up films, and last minute prep items saying “HI!”. 

A quick HUUUUUGE thank you to Matthew Curtis, Shannon Jones, Jordana Meade, Jon Jones, Mara Shorr and everyone else in this office for giving us this office space and being so wonderful. Please give us a massive shout out and hello when you follow us on Twitter. @beforeyousubmit

Before You Submit was busy yesterday with getting all our forms ready, buttons made, website uploaded, and even started filming for the opening day video clip. Matt was busy running around in the Enzian Theater kitchen filming, and if you were in attendance for Blue Velvet for the Cult Classic, chances you will be in the video. It was great to hear people asking “who” and “what” was being filmed. 

Thanks for those who cheered and joined the twitter last when house manager Chris Blanc announced that I have screened over 113 films in the Florida FIlm Festival, and I was quick to remind him, 121 films. Today is a busy day, and we will be around the theater and office filming and getting updated news to cover on this site. 

Thanks for all the praise and kind words on the new site. Be back soon with some hints to the launch of something big on Monday April 6th, 2009.
